Do you support or work with people with learning disabilities?
We’re inviting you to share your insights on how wellbeing is understood and measured for people with learning disabilities in a new call for evidence.
Why this matters
At PBE, we believe everyone deserves the chance to live well. But as our report with the London 2012 Games legacy organisation Spirit of 2012 shows, existing, standardised wellbeing measures don’t always reflect the real experiences of people with learning disabilities.
That means their needs are often misunderstood — and the benefits of policies and interventions that support them can go unrecognised. Read more in this article. We want to change this. And we need your help.
Who we want to hear from
We’re looking for insights from:
- Charities, funders, social enterprises, private companies, service providers and practitioners working directly with people with learning disabilities
- Advocates, researchers and evaluation specialists exploring wellbeing in this context
Whether you use formal tools, informal methods, or are still figuring out what works best — your experiences in measuring wellbeing are valuable.
What we’d like you to share
We’d like to hear about:
- Your organisation and how you work with people with learning disabilities
- Why measuring wellbeing matters to you, and how findings should be used
- Any approaches you’ve tried — quantitative tools, your own methods, or qualitative approaches
- What’s worked well, and what challenges you’ve faced
- Resources, guides or examples that have shaped your approach
- You can also include links, reports, or other evidence to illustrate your work.

Why take part?
The evidence you share will:
- Shape future guidance, research and policy
- Help build more inclusive and meaningful ways to measure wellbeing
- Ensure the voices of people with learning disabilities are better reflected in decision-making
Together, we can develop approaches that value the real experiences of people with learning disabilities.
FAQs
Is the information I send confidential?
Any information sent to us will be stored securely and not shared beyond those directly working on the project. We will be publishing an over-arching summary of the evidence submitted, but we would not associate any details to specific organisations without first requesting written permission.
Will my contribution be anonymous?
We would typically expect to provide a list of organisations that have responded to the call for evidence as part of our published summary and direcrly attribute quotations from responses in our report. However, if you would like your contribution to be anonymous then please make that clear in your submission and we will be happy to respect that.
I would rather speak to someone, is there a number I can call?
If you would like to give evidence verbally or speak to one of the team about the project then please contact us at projects@pbe.co.uk and we’ll be happy to arrange a call.
What will you do with the information I share and when will you share your findings?
The responses to the call for evidence will be reviewed and analysed by our team here at PBE. We will share a summary of key findings with our advisory group of experts working in the sector as well as our lived experience group (see below). A summary, along with proposed next steps for this work, is expected to be published in April or May 2026.
How are you engaging people with lived experience in this project?
We are currently working with organisations from across the sector to establish a “lived experience advisory group” for this project. We will work with that group to ensure that our findings and proposed next steps reflect the voices of those with lived experience.
With thanks to Spirit of 2012 for generously supporting this project.
