Who can volunteer: the skills and expertise we need

While there is not a one-size-fits-all model for an ‘ideal’ volunteer, we match professionals who are confident in their data skills and can help organisations understand and communicate their impact or use data and evidence more effectively. We welcome your registration as a volunteer if you:

Are based in the UK.

Are proficient in data analysis using software like
Excel, Stata, or R.

Can communicate findings of analysis clearly and accessibly.

Experience in data visualization, analysis, research
scoping, or cost-benefit analysis.

If you have any questions about your eligibility, get in touch with us at project@pbe.co.uk.

Volunteer opportunities

Volunteers can work on various tasks that match their interests and availability. You might help a domestic violence charity with data analysis and visualisations, create a user-friendly spreadsheet for a charity supporting young people with their mental health, or conduct a feasibility study to estimate the economic impact of a loneliness policy.

When we advertise an opportunity, we provide all the necessary information for you to assess if it aligns with your skills, availability, and interests before applying. The time commitment for opportunities typically ranges from 1 to 10 days over a few months. You can start applying for opportunities once your registration to volunteer is confirmed.

Here are some key points to keep in mind:

We share opportunities via email, and you can also access them directly on our website.

After we receive your application, we will notify you if you have been matched.

If successful, we will arrange the next steps to connect you with the charity involved.

You will work directly with the charity’s team to complete the project.

Applying to volunteer doesn’t guarantee a match, but we aim to pair as many volunteers as possible each year.

Corporate partnerships

If your team is looking to apply their professional skills through volunteering, we can help. We connect businesses with charities that need their data expertise, enabling teams to use their skills to help charities demonstrate and communicate their impact.
Our long-standing relationship with FTI Consulting is a great example of how meaningful volunteering can be a win-win situation for everyone involved.

According to Tim Battrick, FTI Consulting Managing Director:

“Working with PBE has provided our team with impactful volunteer opportunities that leverage our expertise and provide a meaningful experience for both FTI Consulting’s professionals and the charities we support. We’re proud to work alongside PBE on important and interesting issues.”
