Our analysis services

This page outlines the support we offer.

If you’re unsure of what support you need right now or you’re looking for a general introduction to the principles and practicalities of economic evaluation, we suggest signing up to our Unlocking Impact workshop. It’s how most organisations start their journey with us.

For 2025-26, we’re particularly interested in working with organisations that operate across the following areas: loneliness; housing and homelessness; children and young people’s mental health; and the functioning of civil society.

Data advice

Not sure where to start?

Let us help you find out. Our analysts will work with you to understand your needs and advise on appropriate next steps. For some organisations this we’ll simply need a quick chat, for others it could include attending our Unlocking Impact Workshop to learn more about economic evaluation, tailored advice about what data to collect or a detailed feasibility assessment. We will shape the support to suit your needs.

Potential outputs of data advice include:

Light-touch advice

Feasibility study

Tailored economic logic chain

Economic analysis

Do you collect standardised outcome data and want to measure the economic impact of your organisation or intervention?

Our economists can provide in-depth economic evaluation, including wellbeing valuation, to measure the impact of your organisation or intervention on wider society against the costs of delivery. Typically, this type of project might allow you to say, “for every £1 spent, we generate £X of benefits to society.”

This support helps you understand how your service makes a difference in the lives of those you help. It gives you strong foundations to monitor outcomes over time and explore how changes to your services can influence your impact. An economic analysis provides the evidence to show how your organisation impacts society and the value your work brings.

Potential outputs of economic analysis include:

Rigorous and independent report

Press briefing

Advocacy & insight

Need solid evidence to help your advocacy campaigns or push for policy changes?

We provide rigorous analysis of evidence to lift the lid on the issues that impact wellbeing in the UK. Our team can quantify the benefits of policy change or the costs of not acting.

If the right data exist, we can help your organisation with analysis to drive influencing campaigns and to provide evidence to advocate to policymakers and different levels of government. We are proud of our independence, and our influential advocacy and insight reports reflect that.

How does PBE’s pro bono support work?

We open applications for pro bono analysis projects twice a year. The next rounds will be in July 2025 and January 2026, and we’ll promote them through our social media and newsletter channels. If we can help, we’ll co-develop a clear project brief outlining the scope, timeline and outputs. Once agreed, we’ll put together the right team and get started.

  • Step 01 – eligibility

Our pro bono support is focused on small to mid-sized charities. To be eligible, your organisation must be a registered charity or social enterprise, based in the UK and delivering services to UK beneficiaries. In some cases, we may ask for a contribution toward service costs, depending on the scope of the work and the organisation’s income.
  • Step 02 – application

We’ll ask you to provide as much detail as possible about the issue you need PBE’s help with, so we can assess whether we can assist.
  • Step 03- initial assessment

We assess applications using three key questions: Does the right data exist for us to help? Is your work aligned with our mission? Are we the right team to support you?
  • Step 04 – detailed assessment

We’ll meet with your team for a scoping session to explore your request in more depth. A PBE analyst will then carry out further research and internal discussions to confirm whether an analysis project is feasible.
  • Step 05- confirmation

If we can help, we’ll co-develop a clear project brief outlining the scope, timeline and outputs. Once agreed, we’ll put together the right team and get started.
