Workshops

We offer workshops that explore how economics can be used to measure impact. For charities, our workshops explore the principles and practice of economic evaluation, helping you understand and demonstrate your impact. For economists, we provide guidance on integrating wellbeing measurement into policymaking, strategy, and business cases.

Learn about the economic approach to measuring impact

Looking to measure, understand and articulate your impact, but not sure where to begin? At our flagship Unlocking Impact Workshop, you will receive an expert-led introduction to the economic approach to measuring and valuing the impact of your work.

Alongside other organisations at a similar stage in their data journey, you will learn:

Impact models

The different models of valuing impact, such as cost-benefits and scenario analysis, using real life examples.

Impact measurement

The most credible methods for measuring and valuing impact.

How to inspire change

How they can use evidence to inspire change.

Who is this workshop for

To take part, your organisation should be a UK-based charity, community group, or social enterprise delivering services to UK beneficiaries.

If your organisation has an annual turnover above £2.5 million, we may ask for a fee to attend the workshop.

We recommend the workshop is attended by people who know your organisation’s data. This could be someone working in monitoring and evaluation, operations, finance, or service delivery, but that’s not a requirement.

How it works

This interactive 4.5-hour workshop is delivered online over two days. To express your interest, just complete our registration form.

For 2025–26, we’re particularly keen to work with organisations focused on: Loneliness; Housing and homelessness; Children and young people’s mental health.

If your organisation works in one of these areas, you may also be eligible for one-on-one follow-up support with a PBE economist. These sessions can help you shape the scope of a future economic impact evaluation. We aim to cover a broad range of topics over time. If we’re not able to offer follow-up support right away, there may still be opportunities to revisit your work as our focus areas change.

Learn about the Green Book’s recommendations for measuring wellbeing

In 2021, the Treasury published new guidance on using wellbeing to inform business cases and policy appraisals across government. This marked a significant step forward, offering clear guidance to officials and analysts on how to design, assess, and evaluate policies through a wellbeing evidence lens.

In response, PBE partnered with experts from the What Works Centre for Wellbeing, State of Life, and the London School of Economics to develop a practical training workshop.

This 4-hour workshop is designed for analysts who want to:

Green Book

Understand the Green Book and its role in integrating wellbeing into policymaking

Wellbeing

Incorporate wellbeing into business cases and develop strategic cases

Guidance

Navigate key parts of the guidance for appraisals and evaluations

Practical training

Take part in practical training on wellbeing measurement—including tools, calculations and exercises

Who is this workshop for

This training is designed for analysts who want to build their understanding of wellbeing measurement.

It’s fully funded for those working in the charity sector, civil service, or education.

What other charities said about our workshops

  • Workshops

"The workshop was really well put together and brilliantly led. It was super to have both the expert facilitator and PBE’s Chief Economist available throughout."

The case studies really helped with my understanding as did the quiz in particular. It was great to take a step back and see Artis from an economist’s perspective. Just what we need! Can’t wait for next step.

  • Workshops

"I felt that the workshop gave great insight into how you should develop an economic evaluation, which is something that we struggle with."

I found it very interactive and going into breakout rooms and having the quiz breaks the session up. Having case studies gives you a better understanding of what you and should be doing.

"Really enjoyed the chance to discuss impact in such an informed way with people who could really answer questions."

I have been very sceptical of impact analyses previously so was good to get and introduction to a model that makes sense to me. Thank you.
